St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish |
In July 2006, the Congregation of the Resurrection came into St. John the Baptist Parish, Johnsburg. The Resurrectionists have been ministering in McHenry County for more than forty years.
Resurrectionists staff both Resurrection Retreat Center in Woodstock, which serves thousands of retreatants every year, and the parish of the Church of the Resurrection, also in Woodstock. In addition, they maintain a small house of formation in Bull Valley.
Like Franciscans or Jesuits, Resurrectionists bring a special gift to the Church. Their gift to the Church is reminding people through preaching and teaching of Jesus’ message of hope for the world. By the power of God’s grace, Resurrectionists bear the gospel of hope to those in need of conversion. It all starts by reminding people of God’s great love in Jesus Christ for each one of us.
The Congregation of the Resurrection was founded in Rome in 1842. By the late 1850’s, Resurrectionists were ministering in Texas, Michigan, Ontario and, eventually, Chicago. In the U.S., they have spread to Alabama, Florida, California and Missouri, as well as Illinois. Worldwide, they work in seventeen countries.
Their chief work is in parishes, where they focus attention on the Eucharist as the organizing principle around which all other parish activities revolve. They also serve in high schools and colleges; formation of youth is a large part of their ministry.
Our new Parochial Administrator is Fr. Jacek Junak, CR.
